Enthusiast Raises Funds for Sinkhole

“We all at certain times in our lives find ourselves broken. True strength is found in picking up the pieces.“

We at the National Corvette Museum are beyond thankful for the numerous notes of support, sympathy, and love from our community and Corvette family. Everyone has so generously helped us in various ways to pick up these pieces from our sinkhole incident.

Its small acts of kindness that make us realize that Corvettes are much more than a hobby. We are a family. Brett White of Quincy, IL was devastated by the news of the sinkhole and wanted to do anything he could to help out the Museum - not because of publicity or recognition - but because “that’s what families do,” he said. White auctioned off to his Facebook friends a foot long wooden 1963 Corvette split window coupe and donated the auction earnings to the National Corvette Museum. The auction ended on February 14. White said he selected to close the auction on Valentine’s Day because “we all love Corvettes.”

The car sold for $750, and the second place bidder matched it for a total of $1,500 raised. The winning bidder then donated the car to the Museum's Library and Archives.

Thanks to Brett and the bidders/donors of this auction! Our foundation will be stronger with all of this horsepower.

NCRS and NCCC Donate to Museum

Support for our sinkhole relief has come from not just individuals, but from organizations. Two such organizations are the National Corvette Restorers Society and National Council of Corvette Clubs.

Museum staffer Gary Cockriel attended a number of NCCC meetings in February, including a meeting of the Governors in St. Louis. At the meeting, Hal Bellamy, President of NCCC and the NCCC representative on the Museum's board, suggested the group donate to aid in the sinkhole relief. After a nearly unanimous vote the Governors presented Gary with a check for $5,000.

The NCRS has also donated $5,000 - but has issued a challenge to their 46 chapters worldwide. They have pledge to match the contributions of their chapters, up to $5,000 additional dollars - bringing the potential grand total to $15,000 or higher.

Thanks so much to these two groups for their contributions! Check back next week as we feature even more folks that have been helping with contributions!

2014 Torch Red Z51 Convertible Raffle Winner Drawn

Congrats to Edward Strawder of Toms River, NJ! His winning ticket #710 was drawn in our raffle for a 2014 Torch Red Stingray. We sold all 1,000 of the available tickets.

Your next chance to win a 'Vette is Thursday, March 27 when we raffle a "Build Your Own" Stingray! This raffle gives you the option to build a coupe or convertible with the colors and options of your choice, or take $55,000 CASH!

Learn more about our raffles, including exclusions and restrictions and purchase tickets online at www.corvettemuseum.org/raffle or call 800-538-3883 during normal business hours.

Yet Another Reason to Attend Bash

As though you needed another reason to register for the NCM Bash (slated for April 24-26), we have two words for you - Sinkhole Exhibit! That's right... not only will you get to see the 2015 Z06 and all of your favorite seminars with the GM team, but you'll also get to see the Corvettes recovered from the sinkhole.

Our exhibit hall will feature information on these cars, the process of recovering them, information and graphics on caves and sinkholes and much more. Executive Director Wendell Strode, and Construction Manager Mike Murphy will lead a seminar about the sinkhole, including an update on the progress being made.

The activities are too numerous to mention. Check out the full agenda and register online here.
