Sorry I'm sURE your done by now but I hAD REPALced my heater core for my 1978 automatic air condition car. I was removing the dash as it was a dash cover and I wanted to see what the real dash looked like and why someone ( the florida swamp alligator salesman) covered the dash to sale it???? Ok so I finally got enough nerve to remove it and replace the dash. I was told to replace the heater core even if it was not leaking since i had the dash off. So I did ,,,the heater core was a no brainer but teh dash and everything else ,,,well not difficult but time consuming or finding the time to attend to it. Anyway hope your done but I was scared to try the heater core because of all the info I got and not from the C3 website but I checked everywhere for info before I decided to try it.
Anyway after being told several incorect things the heater core in my 78 air condition model has four screws to it. the top left from inside the car looking out towards the firewall and engine the top left screw/bolt goes through the firewalll and there is a bolt you can see that is attached to this bolt on the engine side of the firwall. The other 3 screws or bolts just go int the firewall from the interior car side ...bno bolt on the outside of the firewall. Just unscrew from the firewalll and yo have the heater core loose. Yes the gasket or glue or silicone made it stick to the firewall but after the 4 screws are loose and the silicone seal is loose and yo have removed the hoses from underneath the car it is just a upward tug and pull and slide the copper pipes from the bottom of the body and the heater core is loose.
Your porbably beyond this by now but if not send me a email and I will get yo pics and more info, but the core is just write down as yo take it apart and take pics as yo take it apart and re do the gaskets and silicone and it goes back in easy and reattach the bolts!
let me know if yo need more BB78
