I recently bought a 78 Silver Anniversary edition. It has Goodyear Eagle ST's on it. They have a lot of tread and still look fantastic. I am going to get new tires because these haven't been made in a long time. It's better to be safe than sorry. Is there a market for these tires? It seems as if someone could use them on a car that is used for shows, etc.
Pat
Were those ever an original equipment tire? I put those on my 72 in 1997.
The Cooper Cobras are good tires for 15" rims.
Good Morning, What is the date on the tires for manufacture? Do they have a "Blem" designation? What size are they? Do they show dry rot or UV deterioration? All these factors will determine the ability for use.
Im not sure if they were ever original equipment.
Pat
I can't say for sure when these tires were manufactured. These tires have no DOT codes so it was sometime prior to 2000. That is when DOT started requiring that the dates be put on tires. From the paperwork that came with the car it looks like they were purchased in 1992. They have no dry rot and look excellent. I don't know if they have any blem designation. The size is 255/60/15.

Personally, they are not road worthy. Display use maybe. Recycle them, at least they'll get used.
Yep, they are way too old to be on a car that is driven. I don't think they are worth anything.
The original tires on a '78 were size P225/70R15. The only GM authorized alternate tire was a P255/60R15 which were the Goodyear GT Radial with outline white letter tires, not the solid letter Eagle ST.

What were the original tires? They were white letter but I don't remember what tire.
Greetings, From my observation on photos, and stats, the 60s were only on the Pacer. The originals were possibly BF Goodrich TA. Not saying this is correct, but only seen in print form from publishers of Corvette Facts.
The P255/60R15 tires were not exclusive to the Pace Car edition. These tires were option code QBS which specified "White Letter SBR tires, P255/60R15" and option was for a set of four. For 1978, Chevrolet released 6,502 Pace Car editions, one per dealer. However, the actual quantities of option QBS was 18,296 sets which is 39.1% of all 1978 Corvettes produced. Okay, so you don't have to 'scroll'. Appeared that way at first in the message body box. My bad.....
Still curious as to what the 225/70 tires were.
Think I have an answer to F4Gary's post about what the P225/70R15's were.
I posted the question about what brand/model of tire were the P225's on Corvette Forum. One of their members replied.
The answer is:
“See what’s new today in a Chevrolet.” A subtle opening of the doors for the Corvette Silver Anniversary edition. For this presentation Goodyear rolled out the red carpet – with deep pile. The Goodyear Polysteel Radial.P225/70-R15 Small Letter Goodyear Polysteel Radial RWL P225/70-R15 Large Letter Goodyear Polysteel Radial RWL Goodyear Polysteel – a Corvette tradition. Simply performance to the nth degree. Once again, ride with authentic pleasure. Ride with Goodyear Polysteel. Simply eye catchers by any definition.
That's what I was looking for!👍
So those 20+ year old Goodyear STs are pretty much worthless.
I did sell some 20 year old Polyglass tires at the swap meet here, but the buyer only wanted them so he could roll his chassis around in the garage while he worked on it.
Hey Pat my name is Terril Fugitt and I’m interested in your tires. Do you still have them if so I probably want them.
Terril
Never mind they are the wrong size
Terril
Are you still sitting on the ST'S???

Terril, you do know they are not road-worthy tires, right?
I no longer have the tires.
