Pros and Cons on a C3 Steeroids Steering system.

A lot of people on various forums like the Borgeson steering better.  Plus it's cheaper.

I have the Steeroids It was a great upgrade we did a group buy a few years back do not know the comparisons but Either should be a good upgrade 

Met a member at the 2010 Gathering with steeroids on a '68. It was the 1st time I had seen them. He had full length headers also so it was a little trickier getting them in. The turning radius is slightly larger with steeroids, don't know about the other brands. I have steeroids.

Was it difficult to install. They call for five hours. Plus extra time for the alignment.

I took my time Richard, and I have a lift. It took me the better part of 2 days, at my very casual pace, but I wanted to be sure the install was perfectly executed. We had a Corvette expert out here, and I took it to him to insure it was done right. He gets $125. He re-shimmed the front and checked the rear. It steers and handles more like a modern car now. No regrets here.

I think autocross expert Danny Popp uses the Borgeson steering in his 72 autocross Vette.

I installed the steeroids system on my 82 about 5 years ago.  The install was fairly simple but I, like Jimmy, took my time and it took me a little over twice the estimated 5 hours.  It is far and away the best upgrade Ive made on my vette but, as you already know, it aint cheap. The system bolted to original holes and all brackets and hardware were included and of quality construction.  Once getting everything adjusted and a 4 wheel alignment it drives great. Steering is quick, positive and absolutely NO bump steer.  It took me a little while to adjust to the quick steering after driving with the worn original steering gear; if you move the wheel at all, the car is going to respond accordingly.


  I cant speak to how it compares with the other systems out there but I'd never go back.

I took a look at the Borgeson steering. It looks like there maybe a big difference. When I decided to go with steeroids I was having issues with getting good steering control valves and my steering box was worn. the steeroids unit replaces the steering box control valve and damper. Someone who has the borgeson unit, does it replace all these components? It does seem that both are a big improvement.

Just an Idea I think both steeroids and Borgeson user seem to be happy with their units you could go to each web site look at the installation instructions for your car and see which you would feel comfortable installing. I believe after installation you would want to get a good alignment which is another issue finding someone who can align your vette correctly

Yes it does away with the steer cylinder and control valve.

To add to that, it also replaces the old steering box with the newer design, faster ratio, steering box. (Right?)

What ratio is the original Saginaw type steering box on a 68. Do I go with a 12:1 ratio; 8:1 ratio, 6:1 (which seems like maybe to responding and to tight of steering)

Original box was 16:1.  The Borgeson is around 12:1 and I think the Steeroids is similar.

If you shop around, like on Summit, etc., you can get the Borgeson at a pretty reasonable price.

It looks as though both are good upgrades. I recommended looking at the installation instruction because for the borgesen I believe you have to remove the steering column to change the length How was that procedure?
