I seem to be having a problem keeping my Wheel Caps on my 1981 "Shark"  Arn't they suppose to stay on and not get loose??  I always say that I'm gonna use "crazy glue" to keep them on but I know that that  (double use of word) is not a very good fix.  Anybody got any ideas for me????

I lost one of mine recently.  It came off in my hand, I reinstalled it with a hammer and block of wood.  I came offagain first time I drove it.  The other 3 have to be pried out.  I have a feeling the nubs wear down.  I don't know if they can be popped out from the inside with a punch.  Mine was never recovered..  I bought another set.  Pricy.

The plastic center caps will become loose over time. All 4 of mine are sloppy, but I have yet to loose one. I keep telling myself to put some sillycone on them, but haven't yet. The only other way to make sure they stay on involves drilling a hole in the center...not something most of us wanna do. My suggestion is to sillycone them, and not drive it until that dries. Thumbs Up

I have to use some weatherstriping glue on my caps to keep them secured since some of the tabs that locks in the cap are broken. They hold well this way and when I need to remove them, clean off the black stuff and re-apply and slap back in and let them sit overnight before driving so to dry well.

When I had the alloys, I cut small strips of duct tape and stuck them in the indented tabs where the caps hold onto the center of the wheel.
You could'nt see the tape at all and it worked very well.

I've had problems with the center caps on my Dodge Dakota.  After losing a couple at $25 or so a pop I started gluing them in.  I use a few dabs of gorilla glue and haven't lost one since.  (I'm sure clear silicone would work great, too)  They just have to pried off and cleaned up a little every time I have the wheels spin balanced.

Hoping I don't ever lose the OEM center caps on my rally wheels (or have them get stolen).  Sure it's not cheap to get new real ones.

Drilling a hole in the center??  What does that do??  Does not make any sense to me to do that Joel!!!  I think I will  try the clear silicon.  See if that works.  Makes it hard to remove them if you take part in timed vette actions!!

I had the same problem when I had the original alloy wheels. I'd place a thin bead of RTV around the edge of the cap. But not to much as to where it oozes out, and then stick it into place letting it dry overnight. Never lost a cap after that.

You dint read all of it...I said it "involves" drilling a hole...dint say that would be all that was needed.....LOL
A hole, and either a small chain, or all-thread/long bolt/nut, with a back-up of flat steel, will keep them on the car.
You'll also note that I saided, "not something most of us wanna do".... Tongue LOL

The silicon idea really is best....it still allows you to remove them when needed.
