Well, easier said than done. Am I just dense, or what? I went to the L81 Registry site and didn't find it. And even with this new info I'm still in the dark . If I may,... this is how my trim tag looks exactly;

Take another look at your tag there, Jimmy....you shure it's not B 08??(Aug. '81)

Also, if you still have the blue certification sticker on the door, it will give the month/year of assembly...if it's still readable.

Yes Joel, that was infact a     "B  08C",  I seem to get conflicting info on this thing. The door sticker clearly says 09/81 and my vin #1G1AY8763B5105622 (if I'm reading it right) claims it's a Bowling Green car and I guess the exact day it was assembled is not possible to determine ........ Wait 'til I talk to that Rootbeer lady for gettin me started , she's soooo concerned with everybodies birthday

VIN 05622 would have been built(completed) in Sept, '81. I can check on that and get the exact date...as soon as I find my Birthday Book.
The car could have had the trim tag installed, and then either sat on the line for a holiday/week-end, parts shortage, or it may have had to go back thru the body shop for paint issues. This would explain the two different months on the door, and the trim tag. The trim tag is installed BEFORE the paint, and the door sticker is applied on final assembly.
Put it this way...the car was painted the 3rd week in Aug. B08=Aug. The "C" represents the week of the month, A = 1st week, B = 2nd week, etc.
Your car just took longer to complete for some reason. Perhaps they wanted to make sure it was perfect, since they knew you would own it someday...

 OK, Stop it. Your makin' me misty here (I get that way alot these days). Joel, I'm sorry. I never meant for any one to sacrifice any large portion of their life to attain this kind of info for me, you work too hard in our behalf already, but thank you very much for all your efforts. There is obviously a trick to this known by only a special few (technical education I'm sure). I'd like to save any favors you might grant me in the future for more important stuff, like,... my tranny transplant  (coming soon, to a theater near you) .

Where did you get this BIRTHDAY book.... ??????

I can find the last Vin produced in any month from 1961 thru 1972 model years BUT I can not find
this info for any other model years.... 

I assume your birthday book has this info.... and My Bookshelf would like a copy of that book...

 Knowing they prduced X number of  corvettes in August  and looking at the calander you can determine how many days they actually worked so you can come darn close to figuring out when car #xxx903 was actually made...

I just can not find the figures for after 1972....

Bob, The Corvette Birthday book is fairly accurate, but it is NOT 100% foolproof. It is a fair representation of final VINs for the day.

Is it possible another dealer took original delivery, it sat on the showroom floor for a while, then they assigned it to the other dealer? THings that make ya go....hmmmmmm...

On the L-88 on ebay, the general consensus amongst the eggsperts is that it is NOT original, or it has been "massaged"....too many discrepancies.

1978 50th BD gift to my bride

Bryan, you can probably find several different places on the net to decipher the paint and trim codes or you can look for something called the Corvette Black Book, it’s a nice pocket sized quick reference for Corvette codes 1953 and up. From my black book - Interior Trim code 692 is Dark Brown Leather, Exterior paint code 59L is Corvette Light Beige which lists a quantity of 1686 cars painted that color. Let me know if you need help with any other numbers/codes.

so, my trim tag looks like : D 14, November 14th , trim 752 and paint 10. Its a 1981 white with red interior. 752 is different than std? Thanks so much!

Hi all, newbie here...

I've learned a lot reading through the various forums on here with hopes to be a semi- informed buyer.

I've been searching for just over a year now and think (thought) I found what I was looking for, a 71 convertible (repainted black -there were none and black interior black top) but then I asked for a pic of the Trim Tag and then red flags went up see attached..

Through my research on here it seems to me this is from a 78?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, really had my hopes up on this one.

Can't speak for anyone else here, but....I can't see the trim tag....it's very blurry. Can you post the info, or perhaps a better, larger pic? Us old folks don't have very good eyesight! lol.

I can say the tag appears to be from a vehicle older than '78, since it is not painted. However, it kinda looks like it may have an upper/lower paint style code, which would certainly be a red flag on a '71. Need a better view of the tag....at least for me, to see it.

IF I squint my eyeholes just right, it appears to be a 722 trim code, which would be medium red leather interior, and then I think the paint codes are 13U/07M, which would make this trim tag belong on a August 15, 1978, Silver Anniversary car, with a red leather interior.

Do you have pics of the car itself??

You are correct on the paint code, interior is 722.

Going to see the car tomorrow afternoon, seller clarified today as a resto-mod

Even as a resto-mod, doesn’t explain why a trim tag that far out of whack was put into this...why on earth, certainly nothing to be gained

Picture of the car?  78 looks a lot different than a 71.
