...for an answer to make your life easier?

The vette has been sitting for about 4 years. Combination of not being with the car and health issues(all good now). I have to get rid of the gas because I'm fairly certain it will be bad, can I just drain it and then put new gas in, disconnect the line and push the old gas in the lines out and then start it? Hoping you folks don't tell me I should have the tank cleaned out. At that point I'll just buy  a new kit and replace the sending unit as well.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Thanks folks

Dave

After the gas tank is drained, I would look in it with a bright light and see if there's any crud left on the bottom. If there is, put a little fresh gas in and rock the car to wash the sediment out when you drain that gas out.

Got the thinking that if the car has set for 4 years and wasn't put to bed with a fresh oil change, might be a good idea to do that before you start it. Also you'll want to disconnect the ignition so that you can turn the engine over to build up oil pressure and get the engine oiled before you start it.

It was put away with fresh oil change. Great idea bout getting oil thru the engine.

Gas looks good, not that that means too much, no residue.

Put a can or 2 of Seafoam in with your first tank of gas. After draining/cleaning tank, 2 cans Seafoam and half a tank of gas, drive around for a while. If runs rough, let sit 24 hrs  and restart, if still rough - repeat until carb is clean. If runs great off the bat, top off your tank. Won’t save a heavily lacquered system but I’ve avoided a tear down of quite a few fuel systems in cars, generators and lawn equipment. I wish you luck!

Run it in your lawnmower or add a gallon to a pretty full tank of gas in your daily driver to get rid of it.

You can save yourself a lot of grief and aggravation if you start using non ethanol fuel a month or so before you plan on packing it in for the winter.

Here in VA we are a boating waterman community and Non E is available almost everywhere.

If you cant get non E look for a local airport.  They have Avgas which is non e and will last for years. Expensive yes but its cheaper than draining the fuel tank and keeping your fingers crossed that all your cleaning additives have done their job.

You are gonna have to replace that gas tank.  No way around it.

*edit.....April Fools.  Your tank is fine.

Wow, this place is dead.  🙁
