does anybody have any experience with the Dynomax Super Turbo or the Ultra Flow mufflers as seen in the Vette catalogs, Ecklers etc. I'm interested in fit in the stock location and the sound they create over the stock muffs. thanks in advance |saluteflag|

I have them on my 69 right now and I have mixed feelings on them. They will fit in the stock location and have a fairly stock look.

As for the sound, if you are looking for quiet domesticated mufflers (like many vettes had) than these aren't for you. At idle, my car sounds much more like a Winston (it has an aggresive cam) cup car than anything that had the side exhaust. As for performance, I have no complaints and the sound over 2000 rpm's is very sweet!

PS - I have yet to have been pulled over for noise complaits.

Take a look/listen at the Magnaflow TurboXL if you can. Put a pair on my 75 (modified 350 ... heads, carb, intake, cam, roller rockers, headers, etc.)with 100% satisfaction. (Ok, maybe all the neighbors aren't 100% satisfied)

Tone's aggressive, volume's civilized (relatively) ... and they don't sound like everyone else's Flowmasters on C/K pickups. More growl, less rasp.

Thanks for the info. Just one question--do you have the super turbo or the ultra flow from Dynomax? On the Dynomax website the sound clips make the ultra flow much louder & I can't decide which one I want. Thanks again--Tom |saluteflag|

I'm gonna do 'something' to my stock '82; my '93 Dodge Dynasty sound better! |headscratch| I'd want the new mufflers to 'fit' in the stock location; 'rumble' at idle (in a stock Cross-Fire? |ohwell|); 'bark' under acceleration; and 'growl' under decceleration. 'Sometime' this summer, I'd like to put 2.5" 'true-duals' w/o the cat, followed by a 'hot-rod' Cross-Fire motor (don't laugh |no-no|) over the winter. Any/all ideas are appreciated.....

Hey Blackdog,

I think the Super Turbo's may be for you. (Sorry, I failed to mention that that's what's on mine) They have a healthy stacatto sound and definitely don't sound like flowmasters.

If in doubt on your choice, I would consider trying to give Dynomax a call. Some of these companies are willing to speak directly with consumers. Sorry, I don't know how to get in touch with them.

I have a 1979 Vette and I put the Dynomax Super Turbos on it and the sound is just right for my L-82. I get a lot of good comments on how it sounds. It's not to loud but not quite. They fit and look just fine. |thumb| |thumb|SIG|

Super Turbo's on my '79 L82 from the p/o & I love the sound. They aren't obnoxious but they rumble my neighbor enough that he knows when I start her up at night.

By the way, I found out why my C3 seemed a little louder than I liked......there's a hole in the center pipe!!! Looks like we'll be replacing exhaust once again. |cussing|

The mufflers are fine by the way, it's the mild steel intermediate pipe that rotted out.

|cheers|

By the way, does anybody out there have the Ultra Flow mufflers? I need to replace my entire system and the Super Turbo's that I like don't come in stainless.

I talked with Dynomax today and the simple difference is that Super Turbos are quiet at highway speeds and Ultra flows sound like the Super Turbos under hard acceleration all the time.

I just found out (by talking to Dynomax again) that the SUPER TURBOS ARE WARRANTIED FOR LIFE!!! All you have to do is pay for shipping (to any parts store that carries dynomax, regardless of where you purchased them) and provide the original sales receipt. Upon closer examination I did find some rot on mine so I'm going to have them exchanged. I'll let everyone know if I have any problems.

It's funny though, many of the local parts stores have no knowledge of this warranty. And I notice that Ecklers does not mention it in their ads nor on the phone when you mention that you are replacing your own set. Only NAPA knew of it.

82dukman, I am considering something (ANYTHING!!! like this for my '82. Did the Flow-50s fit w/o much 'monkeying-around'? I want something that looks fairly stock, and is an easy install. Thanks in advance, from a Cross-Fire brethern, Glen!!!

Glen, if you look at my sig pic you can see that they hang down a little ,lower than stock. They are longer and wider than stock too. I just had to have elbows bent to connect them to the "Y" pipe and since I had to tuck them as high as possible, new rear turndowns were made. Other than that they were a snap to install. You can not use the stock muffler hangers either. Hope this helps, email me and I can sent you some pics if you want.

I've put Magnaflows on mine and these are a stainless steel straight through design performance type muffler. Super high quality with relatively low sound. See Magnaflow topic listed further down in this column for more information. They also have sound clips on their web site. I will post a sound clip on my vette web site later this summer when I change over to true duals. Good luck in your choice, it seems that there are several good ones out there, it just depends on how loud you want the sound. The best thing you can do is go to some shows and listen to others till you find the right combination you want.
