Hello, all!

This is my first post since recently joining with the purchase of a 1981 Corvette. I got the car with 50,054 miles on it with what looks like most of its original stuff minus the air pump and catalytic converter. I’m thoroughly enjoying life with a disco vette. This forum is awesome, too!

While checking for vacuum leaks I broke one of the vacuum line nipples on one of the EGR solenoids… the orange one, not the red one (I’ve not determined each of their names and functions yet).

I attempted a repair of the component - so I could drive it while researching and waiting for a replacement - but with everything back together the choke won’t open. Not sure if this is my problem though.

With the entire EGR system capped off the choke won’t open. Once the EGR solenoid electrical connectors are disconnected the choke opens, however, the idle will not come down.  The car idles about 1200rpm. Before all of this it idled normally.

I understand it’s possible to delete the EGR. What might I have missed or need to do in addition to the delete?

Well, I’ve been working so many vacuum lines that this looks to have been a poor connection at the air cleaner.

congrats on finding the leaking connection.  These gremlins usually come down to a vacuum leak or electrical ground.  I have kept my 82 vacuum system stock.  Many people remove parts of the emission systems, but I never see anyone document any measurable improvement in performance, usually it is just to avoid the cost of rebuilding the smog pump.

Thank you! It’s been fun getting to know this car and researching it and troubleshooting things.

Love your Vette! Such a good looking car with that color and those wheels!
