I need some help here. My running light fuse keeps blowing. I have checked grounds and they are all good and I replaced my headlight/dimmer switch, but that fuse keeps immediately popping as soon as I turn my lights on. I'm a tad bit lost. Any help would be great.
Thanks!
Likely the positive wire is touching ground somewhere. It could also be a bulb that has shorted.
There are about a dozen bulbs with their associated wiring to investigate (along with the dash backlights). I don't know of any easy way of tracking down the short, other than trying to isolate each one at a time.
If this started after a change was made somewhere, that would be a place to start looking. Otherwise, if it were me, I'd start looking at each bulb socket to see if a wire is frayed and touching the metal case of the socket.
One other thing to try; disconnect the dimmer switch and see if the fuse still blows. This will isolate the headlights from the rest of the lights.
I will definitely give that a shot and reply again after I have done that. Thank you.
Hi,I have a 78 PaceCar with 38k miles and had a similar issue.I did the same the checked all ground and fuses.
I tracked it it down to my rear tail lite sockets as they were all original.I bought all new factory type sockets and tail lites and re-wired them in.New bulbs with some anti water goop(dont know the name)on the end of the bulbs and have not had any issues since (yet. They're easy to get to from under the rear of the car to main harness wire.I was able then to re-wrap the line with fresh electrical tape, just to protect the wires.
”fingers crossed” Don’t buy the cheap ones,Hope this helps,KevinH
Awesome and thank you! I got my light switch replaced and even even made sure no wires were bare or rubbing. It may be the same issue as you. I'll check it out and if it works, heck yea!
