Hello all...Having a bit of a problem with a new Delco power antenna on my '82. It works when it wants to. Some times it goes up and down exactly as designed, and other times it does not go up at all. The relay is clicking so the relay is getting power. Even though it clicks, does this sound like a relay problem? Anyone know where I can get a power antenna relay for an '82? If not, does anyone know if the relay for the '78-'79s can be used with some modifications? Thanks 82crossfire38474.4029861111

Before buying the antenna, check the relay output.  It may click, but that only means the control circuit from the radio is working.  It does not mean the relays contacts are okay.  It's easy to check it with a test light or volt meter.    There is another set of contacts inside the motor.  Depending on design, you may be able to remove the antenna cover from the motor and clean the contacts and cure the problem.   Don't forget to check for an intermittent ground.  That will do the same thing, and ground problems are common in fiberglass cars.

Thanks Ken... I think it's the relay (new antenna, new ground). Too late to check it last night. I'll get a test light out tonight and see if I get power out to the antenna.

Fixed the relay problem and thought I'd post some info on the power antenna relay for the years '80 - '82. Most suppliers don't list an antenna relay for those years. But good news; the relay listed by suppliers for the years '78 and '79 works for the years '80 through '82. You will have to make a modification to the mounting bracket. The bracket for the '78-'79 is angled with a 90 degree bend at the top where the '80-'82 bracket is flat. All you need to do is straiten the bracket to make it flat, bolt it in, and plug in the connectors. The relay itself and the corresponding electrical connectors are all the same. Presto! It works again...
