I don't have A/C so I think maybe it is for that ?Had a black end on that fit the black and red wire. Both go to main harness .

I don't know about a 71 big block, but my 72 small block had a temp sensor on the passenger side of the block. Possibly for the Transmission Controlled Spark system? My 72 AIM has the LS6 in it but stamped "cancelled" and it shows the TCS system so maybe that is where that wire went.
