Im looking for the specs on the rear end witdth for a stock rear end out of a 76, backing plate to plate with axels stubs installed, but without rotors. We need to swap out the indendent and go solid with ladder bars becase this is a race Vette. I was told it was the same dimensions as a 69 9" mustang yes I know the F word. But we are tearing up to much stuff. But without having the indendent suspension out of the car I would feel better with some other dimensioms from Vette Guys to match my numbers against. Thanks for any Help |thumb| |bouncy|

I'll try and get a measurement tomorrow if no one else has replied, but as far as being the same width as a '69 Stang, I really doubt it. Maybe an '89 Mustang. I say this because my father and I did some rough measurements when he was considering rearend options for his '29 & '30 Model A streetrod projects, the Model A rear is around 53 or 54 inches plate to plate, and the IRS I picked up from a '74 BB Vette was right around there, 53-55 inches. I don't recall exactly, but it was almost the same. As I said, if nobody else get back to you first, I try to post some numbers tomorrow.
You may also want to contact someone like http://www.currieenterprises.com/
They could probably provide you with the info, and prices on anything from an empty housing to a complete rearend.

Ok, how I got this figure was: hooked tape on the rotor side of backing plate, and measured to the rotor side of the other backing plate with the car setting on the ground, and I came up with 51" exactly. Between the backsides of the rotors is around 51-1/2" to 52"(based on gap between rotor and backing plate).
These aren't numbers that you would want start narrowing a rearend by, but they are as close as I could get without pulling the wheels off. They should be close enough to find a rear to use.
Let me know if need a different measurement, and I'll see what I can do |smile| , and when you figure out what rearend you are going to use, please post about it. I would like to know. |bouncy|
