i want to service the trans and put on one of those pans with the plug. i see two different shapes on CC covering the same years. its a turbo huydromatic,. would it be the pan thats basically square with the one corner angled? its too friggin cold in the garage and i cant get low enough to see
That one is for a 350 THM. The other one is irregular in shape and is for the 400 THM.
ok , i just jacket up a corner... it looks like its the turbo350 in there. definitely not the irregular shape. should i be surprised?
'81 will be a 350C(lockup type). Same pan as "regular" 350. Word to the wise...if you plan on getting a chrome steel pan, be prepared to have leaks.....just sayin..

Same goes for thermostat housing and water pump! Shiny is pretty, but not good for keeping liquid where it belongs.
I replaced my stock TH 350 pan with a steel one. My original pan was distorted and destroyed by having the bolts over tightened to "fix" leaks. Bad idea.
The new one looks just like the pan shown above with the plug. It also leaked a bit at first, so I replaced the pan gasket with this one:

Problem solved.
