Let me start by saying I have a really bad back.  I have been trying to replace the original exhaust on the vette for a couple of weeks.  Once I get under the car I really hate to move so I stay in one location and clean all the road grime and gunk.  It has been a pleasant surprise to see how nice the frame is with a wipe of a clothe.  The parts of the frame that weren't protected by the oil and various fluids has a bit of surface rust.  What rust encapsulator do you recommend?  I saw some awhile ago that was black which would be perfect for the frame along the rocker panel molding.

Thanks, Dave

I've used the rustolium "Rust Reformer" brand for some minor spots seamed to work, I haven't had any issues and it seams very hard.

Hi Dave - I have had experience and good luck with Eastwood products, but you have others too. Not unlike which oil is better, etc ...... Good luck! 😎

I have always liked Naval Jelly and then any good paint.  I have thought but never gotten it clean enough that one of the many rubber spray coating would work also.  Just not sure that they are tough enough.

Most everyone will have a preference.  I just know from 45 years ago Naval Jelly was the old standby to stop rust.

I've had good luck w/ a product called Paint Over Rust or POR-15.  It's expensive but doesn't require real good cleaning.  Just remove loose rust and oil/grease.  Wear rubber gloves because if you get it on your skin, you'll wear it 'til it wears off.  Don't ask me how I know.  ;)

I went with what the local guys suggested.  I was there getting another part and asked them, so I could do it this weekend.  Chasis saver.  Been going to these guys for yrs for most of my tougher questions and I always have gotten the right answer and parts or been steered to where to get it.

and yes I do like my thumb colored satin black.  The dang glove got puncturedLOL

Sounds like it's just like POR-15.

I agree, I had to go out to the garage and check the can to make sure what the name was.

Joel, I can remember those long passed days when it was easier to just hold the part and spray.  Worry about cleanup after the job was done and the beer was drunk!
