Following is the current agenda for the 2018 Gathering (Wednesday, July 25 - Sunday, July 29, 2018.

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Staybridge Suites

Staybridge Suites Cincinnati North
8955 Lakota Drive West, West Chester, Ohio 45069
Main Desk -
513-874-1900 Fax - 513-874-7192

https://www.ihg.com/staybridge/hotels/us/en/west-chester/cvgnw/hoteldetail

The Group Code is CVR and is bookable online. The reserved rooms are (i) studio queen, $149.99; (ii) one bedroom king, $189.99; and (iii) two doubles, $189.99. All suites have a full kitchen with refrigerator, icemaker, microwave, stovetop and dishwasher.

If anyone wants a handicap accessible one bedroom queen or a two bedroom/two bath suite, rates are set-up in the reserved block, but with no inventory. Call the hotel directly to book the accessible or 2 bedroom suites.

We recommend that if you think you may attend this year’s gathering, please book your room early.  There is a Jazz Festival in Cincinnati over the course of 6 weekends, and arranging for hotel accommodations was a bit more difficult than we had anticipated.  You can cancel without penalty with >72 hour notice.  It will also help in arranging tours and meals if we have a reasonable estimate of how many will join us.

The hotel has a full hot breakfast buffet in the lobby.

Below are the tentative plans which we will update you on as more information becomes available:

Wednesday evening 7/25

Meet and greet at the hotel; grilled hamburgers and hot dogs dinner including salad bar, soda and tea provided by the hotel to registered guests; beer and wine available for $.50/glass. Hotel serves from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. We will target 6:00 pm to eat as a group.

Thursday 7/26

Thursday morning breakfast buffet at the hotel.

Jungle Jim's - tour of eclectic international food and beverage emporium. It's more than a grocery store, it is a destination. Cost $5 per person. Mark and Jan will cover in advance.

Devou Park in Northern Kentucky for a photo op of our cars with the Downtown Cincinnati Skyline in the background.

 Lunch at Pompilios. https://pompilios.com

New Riff Distillery tour.  https://newriffdistilling.com/home/

Unstructured time: Options include Newport on the Levee, Newport Aquarium, The Party Source. The Party Source is the largest independent and employee-owned liquor store in the country.     http://thepartysource.com/

Dinner at Hofbrauhaus Newport. https://www.hofbrauhausnewport.com/

Friday 7/27

Friday morning breakfast buffet at the hotel.

Marshal has made arrangements to see two private car collections, both located near New Castle, Indiana. Lunch will be at Stacks (local breakfast joint with full lunch and dinner menu - stacksindiana.com) at 510 S Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN.

Dinner at Rivertown Brewery & Barrel House in Monroe, Ohio. http://rivertownbrewery.com/monroe/.  Weather permitting, we will be outside on the patio.  The patio is reserved for just our group.  Due to the size of the group, dinner will be ordered from their family style menu. Alcoholic beverages will be available separately.

Saturday 7/28

Saturday morning breakfast buffet at the hotel.

National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (Wright Patterson Air Force Base)

http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/

Entry to the museum is Free.  There is a great deal to see there, so we anticipate people will want to spend several hours there.  There are places to have lunch at the museum.

If anyone doesn’t want to spend the entire afternoon at the museum, there are Miami Valley Gaming and the Cincinnati Premium Outlets just off the highway, on the way back toward our hotel.

https://www.miamivalleygaming.com/http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlet/cincinnati.

We will organize a mid-afternoon outing to an indoor shooting range for anyone that may be interested.

Dinner at Kreimer’s Bier Haus  http://www.bierhauswest.net/.  We should have a private room and patio.

Sunday 7/29

Sunday morning breakfast buffet at the hotel.

No pre-pays this year.

Bring walkie-talkies if you have them.

Just so everybody knows, we attempted to reserve a 2 bedroom suite and they only had one that was only available for the first 2 days. We would have had to move to another room. We could only get a king room reserved.

The room block is good until about 4 weeks before the event, if it does not sell out before then. If you think you can join us, I suggest that you reserve a room now. You can always cancel.

So whats the scoop on the gathering? Adam no list of attendee's as per other years, is there any prepay fees? time is drawing nearer even though it doesn't feel like summer in the great north

Mark would be the one to answer, but it appears to me that there are no pre-paid events this year.  If that's true, very convenient for everyone involved, in my opinion.

As far as attendee list, you're right. No list.  I'll see if I can add one to the bottom of the first post in this thread.

Thanks.

We will be updating some details on the agenda and the attendee list, hopefully by Friday night (tomorrow). As certain activities and restaurants require a minimum number of people to reserve a private room, having the best count possible would be a big help.

It is with mixed feelings that we are not going to be able to attend the gathering this year.  Sad, because the gatherings are always a lot of fun and a good chance to catch up with everyone.  Excited because I (Bob) will be getting a fatter vocal cord on the first afternoon of the gathering.  The end result should be a stronger voice and improvement in the ability to eat and swallow but nothing else gets improvement.  This is an outpatient procedure so I will be at home for what little recovery there is.   So keep us in mind as the gathering goes on, we will be there in spirit and missing all of you but then there is next year.  We are for wherever it is decided to go.

Sorry you can't make it Bob. I know all too well what it's like to have your health keep you from things. Right now, I'm a mess. Hoping that by July I'll be ok to travel.

See you at future events!

Still need to “shake it out,” at least once more before the gathering, but Candi and I took the drive from the hotel to New Castle and we believe it is a good mix of quaint country roads, small town America, and some nice curves, all while still being a direct route!

As we get closer and closer to this awesome event, it is looking more and more likely that I will not be able to make it. Short of some sort of miracle, I don't think I'll be healthy enough in time to make the trip. I'm really unhappy about this, especially since I plan to bring my son with me. There's still about a month till the event, so there's a glimmer of hope, but that's about it.

The time to get together is fast approaching. We will have "reserved parking" across the back of the hotel. I will have cones and caution tape to block the spaces. Wash hose will be in back also.

If you have walkie-talkies, please bring them. We find them useful during some of our local runs.
