AGENDA:

Here is the official agenda for the 2014 Gathering.  There are still a few details being worked out but the bulk framework is in place.

There are a number of pre-paid activities on the agenda for the purpose of getting a count of folks to assist with planning and to save some time at each of the places.  There are signup threads for each of these activities as well as a general overview thread for all the pre-paid activites (click here to check it out).  The signup deadline for all pre-paid activities is April 13th.

I apologize for the number of signup threads but there are a few members who are not able to attend the all of the activities so that made it necessary to break the signups out individually.

Thanks go out to Frank Seis (eaglenest) and Wally Sunderlund (sundew) for their assistance in putting together this fabulous agenda.  It has a great mix of activities and dining adventures.  Thanks also to Pete Klug (PJK82CE) for being the "treasurer" for the event.  Gentlemen, MANGE TUSEN TAKK...!!!

  • 8:00AM to 8:30AM - Driver's meeting and staging - Depart at 8:30AM from the motel for a lap around scenic Door County.  The total route for the day is about 225 miles and is less than 5 hours of driving.
  • 8:30AM to ~11:30AM – morning drive – caravan on a mostly due east heading to the Lake Michigan coast and then work our way north along the east shoreline of the Door County peninsula to Baileys Harbor for a lunch stop.  Possible break/gas stops in Algoma and/or just north of Sturgeon Bay.  Maybe a photo op stop somewhere along the way also.
  • ~11:30AM to 1:00PM - Lunch - There are several small to mid-sized eateries in Baileys Harbor so will break into smaller groups to get through the lunch rush faster than if we all invaded one spot (info on a few of the eateries will be in your packet for the day).  There is a gas station in Baileys Harbor also if anyone needs to top their tank.
  • 1:00PM - Cana Island Lighthouse - Short drive (less than 15 minutes) to Cana Island Lighthouse managed by the Door County Maritime Museum (http://www.dcmm.org/cana-island-lighthouse ).  Admission fee is $6:00 per person to be pre-paid to save some time entering the grounds.  If you want to climb up to the top of the lighthouse there is an additional fee of $4.00 per person to be paid separately at the gate.
  • ~3:00PM - Orchard Country Vineyard - Leave the lighthouse and head west across the peninsula to the Orchard Country Vineyard (http://www.orchardcountry.com/ ) just south of Fish Creek for a 3:45PM tour of the vineyard and wine sampling.  $2.00 per person admission fee for the tour - again pre-paid to save some time.  A keepsake wineglass may be purchased separately for $2.00.
  • ~5:00PM – Dinner - Leave the vineyard and head north back into Fish Creek to the White Gull Inn (http://www.whitegullinn.com/dining/traditional-fish-boils.htm ) for the fish boil dinner (baked chicken is an option - same price).  They encourage us to be there no later than 5:15PM so we can watch the fish being prepared.  Dinner is served at 5:45PM (the next seating is at 7:00PM so we need to be gone by 6:30 or so).  Cost is $27.50 per person (includes dinner, dessert, soft drink beverage, tax and gratuity.  Wine and beer are available, but not included in the dinner price.) - again pre-paid to save some time.
  • ~6:30PM – evening drive - After dinner caravan back to the motel.  It is less than a two hour drive from Fish Creek to Little Chute so we should have daylight most of the way back.  There are gas stations in Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, and just north of Sturgeon Bay before we get to Green Bay.

Looks like a great pre-agenda agenda. I do have a couple of pre-questions on the pre-agenda.

1.  6:00AM??!!Shocked   WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!!!  I, of course, jest.  I always, usually, sometimes complain about early starts but am up by 6 or 6:30  staring at the ceiling wondering if I should get up and make coffee.

2.  How much to have someone carry me to the top of the lighthouse?Big smile

That's the time the breakfast area opens.  When you stumble down there is entirely up to you.

Stumble down?  I was thinking more like stumble in!...yeah, I think that last time I stumbled in was 20 yrs ago.

Crane?  I was thinking something like a catapult.   Sure would be more entertaining for you folks.

Seriously, the trip looks awesome so far.  I've been trying to increase my stamina since my back went wacko back in Novemberish.  I did a 100 yd walk in terrain a couple of weeks ago and spent the next 4 days in bedLOL.  Gotta laugh.  I'll get there eventually!
