This is the official agenda for the C3VR Member Gathering in Colorado Springs, CO June 27-29, 2013.  There are some items that need to be pre-paid if you intend to participate in them.  Please see the agenda and payment details throughout.

Don't forget to also check out the Hotel Details and Reservation Info and book your room today (deadline is 4/26!!)

NOTE: You do NOT need to bring your C3 (or other Vette) to join us!  Just bring yourself - no matter what you're driving!

Wednesday (June 26)  Welcome!
  • 6:00 pm – Informal gathering/dinner at gathering hotel. Sub sandwiches from Subway Chips, salads, and drinks will also be available. Cost: $5.00 per person in advance (see below for payment details).
Thursday (June 27) Overview of Colorado Springs and the Old West
  • 8:00 am – Meet in hotel parking lot
  • 8:15 am – Leave promptly
  • 8:40 am – Arrive at Pikes Peak Cog Railway Depot
  • 9:20 am – Depart depot – The railway is strict about arrival for boarding and departure times. Total round trip is 3 hours, 10 minutes which includes time at the summit for shopping, snacking on donuts, walking around, and photo ops. Cost: $35.00 per person in advance (see below for payment details).
  • Alternative: For those people who choose to drive the Pikes Peak Highway in their prized Corvettes, the gates are open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm daily. Caution: driving the highway is equivalent to putting 10K miles on your car. Ensure that brakes and transmission are in optimum condition. We don’t recommend this alternative based on keeping the group together for the rest of the day. Cost: $12.00 per person paid at the gate.
  • 12:40 pm – Leave depot for lunch at Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center. We decided to take advantage of boxed lunches. Sandwich choices are ham and cheese or turkey and cheese. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant, please let us know so that we can make those arrangements. Admission to the Visitor Center is free. There is an optional 14 minute movie on the history of the park. We will drive through the Garden of the Gods stopping for photo ops. Cost: $10.00 for lunch includes sandwich, chips, cookie, and drink per person in advance (see below for payment details). Cost: $5.00 optional movie paid at the door.
  • 3:00 pm – Leave park
  • 3:30 pm – Arrive U. S. Air Force Academy for a walk through the chapel and visitor’s center. There is no cost. Good photo ops and beautiful grounds. Every person needs a photo ID to get on base.
  • 5:30 pm – Depart USAFA
  • 6:00 pm – Arrive Iron Springs Chateau (melodrama dinner theatre) This is a truly Western interactive experience. Be prepared to laugh until your sides ache. Cost includes a fried chicken dinner with all the trimmings, show, and olio. Cost: $30.00 per person in advance (see below for payment details).
Friday (June 28) Overview of southern Colorado mountains
Approximate drive time is 5 hours, covering a total of 220 miles.
  • 8:00 am – Meet in hotel parking lot
  • 8:30 am – Leave hotel – We will drive to Victor, CO stopping for photo ops along the way including Dave Wright posing with the Victor, CO sign. Then on to Cripple Creek for shopping, gambling, visiting museums (the Heritage Center is phenomenal), and eating. Everyone is on their own for lunch as there are many restaurants from which to choose.
  • 1:00 pm – Meet at parking lot for drive to Bishop Castle via High Park Road and Skyline Drive
  • 2:30 pm – Arrive at castle. While there is no admission charge, donations are encouraged and greatly appreciated by the owner.
  • 3:30 pm – Leave castle. Travel back to Colorado Springs via Hwy 115 with a quick gas and restroom stop in Penrose.
  • 5:30 pm – Arrive at Rudy’s Country Store & BBQ for dinner
Saturday (June 29) Overview of front range mountains to the north
Approximate drive time is 6 hours traveling a distance of 250 miles.
  • 8:00 am – Meet in hotel parking lot
  • 8:30 am – Leave hotel – Drive Hwy 24 West to CO 67. Turn North. We’ll travel through Pine Junction, a beautiful scenic drive into Denver and Boulder, CO. We will stop at Casa Bonita of South Park (television show) fame on West Colfax in Denver for lunch. The food is alright; a slight step above Taco Bell, but the atmosphere is entertaining with cliff divers, gun fights and a strolling Mariachi band.
  • 1:00 pm – Leave Casa Bonita Restaurant
  • 2:00 pm – Arrive at The Shelby American Collection Museum, a tribute to Carroll Shelby and his cars (mostly Fix Or Repair Daily models☺) Cost: $5.00 per person at the door.
  • 4:00 pm – Depart museum
  • 6:00 pm – Arrive Savelli’s Italian Restaurant in Manitou Springs. After dinner, we would like to meet back at the hotel to socialize and wrap up the gathering.
Sunday (June 30) Sadly say our goodbyes
SUMMARY
We decided against museums in favor of driving our beautiful cars over the scenic byways of front-range Colorado. We also decided against Seven Falls. This is a beautiful canyon and waterfalls but there are almost 400 very steep stairs to climb straight up. It might be a health issue at 6000 ft. for some of us who lean more toward the sedentary lifestyle. We will give everyone a Welcome Packet on Wednesday that will include brochures to area attractions. If you have time to spend several extra days exploring the area, we encourage you to visit some of our museums and Seven Falls.

PRE-PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Bob and Terry Jett will collect in advance per person for the following events:
  • Wednesday evening dinner ($5 per person)
  • Thursday Pikes Peak Cog Railway train ticket ($35 per person)
  • Thursday Garden of the Gods lunch ($10 per person)
  • Thursday Iron Springs Chateau ($30 per person).
  • Total is $80 per person if you plan to attend each of these 4 events.
They need payment by June 1st to secure all reservations.

Please make a check payable to Bob & Terry Jett and send to their address at 203 Rutgers Place, Woodland Park, CO 80863.   Please make sure to indicate which events you are paying for and how many people for each event.

If you have any questions, please Private Message Bob, call, or text Bob & Terry at 719-684-5459.

Many, many thanks to Bob & Terry Jett for planning this agenda!  We couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I know how much work it takes to put these together.
This sounds like it will be one of the best.
I will be signing up for the full package and can't wait to get there.
See you all in June.

I was curious about the Skyline Drive as I had heard about it in the past.  I found a site that has some good info and a great video.
That's gonna be one trip we won't forget real soon.  Can't wait to get going.  Thumbs Up

P.S.  The video is shown is accelerated and we won't be traveling that fast.  The speed limit is only 15mph.  Man, it would be a hoot if we drove as fast as they showed.  Evil Smile
