Looks like a lot of you guys use a battery disconnect. Where is a good place to put the disconnect switch in a C3 vette? Close to the battery would be best I imagine but inside the batterybox would be difficult to reach every time I want to drive or stop. Maybe behind the seat in the riser panel? Where do other members have it located?

Don't fight it. It's easiest just to put it on the battery in the box. You don't have to disconnect every time you shut off the vehicle, only if it's going to be sitting for a while. If your battery is draining every time you run for groceries, you have a bigger problem than where to put the disconnect.

Totally agree with Webslinger.  Mine is on the positive post of the battery; probably should be on the (-) side but it won't fit.  It is the lever type and it works great.  Only use it when I park it for a week or so.

Check this out, I have it on my Lexus, but plan on putting one on my vette. It's remote controlled. You can just use it as a theft detterent. You can disable the starter curcuit, allowing flow to a computer (if you have one, or clock) You can also press a different button to totally disable everything when storing. The version that I have is the Battery Brain Platinum. Click here to check it out: http://www.batterybrain.com/   I bought it from Crutchfield for $89.00. corvette440hp2008-04-05 15:45:16

You should always disconnect/connect a battery from the negative side...if at all possible. It seems to have less chance of a spark that way.
My disconnect for the '74 is on the neg. terminal of the batt.

My disconnect is in the battery compartment also.  My 82 has a side terminal battery cable but I found that the side mount disconnect made the disconnect knob really difficult to get to.  I took a standard top terminal disconnect, drilled and tapped a hole in the center of the battery cable stud on the disconnect so my side mount cable would bolt up to it.  The knob is now on top of the battery where I can get to it easily like THIS The battery would have to be a dual terminal battery though, most are today.

I put mine on the battery.
It is not difficult to get to and works great.
